I’m new to drawing, so why feature my artwork here when it might seem unrelated to enterprise IT? For one, I’ve always been intrigued by the left-brain/right-brain theory. A left-brained person is thought to be more logical and analytical, while a right-brained person is considered more creative. Based on my experience and years of observation at work, there seems to be some truth in this. I’m curious to see whether this new venture can help me strengthen my creative side.
Second, IT management is as much an art as it is a science. A large part of the work involves problem-solving and collaborating with people, processes, and systems. For example, purely technical fixes can’t resolve challenges like information silos, email scams, or fragmented workflows. The best solutions are often creative, requiring IT professionals to “flex” their right brains and spark new ideas at the intersection of art and science.
I’ve been learning drawing and painting through different media—charcoal, Chinese ink, pastel, pen, pencil, and watercolor—under the guidance of several art centers and inspiring masters. My subjects have included animals, florals, plants, portraits, figures, and landscapes. Featured here are some of my assignments and practice works over the years.
